Garrett "Hawke, no" Hawke ([personal profile] defaulthawke) wrote2018-08-16 12:19 am

info

Name: Garrett Hawke
Age: 28
Physical Appearance: Also note that he's 6'4 and generally huge.
Point in Timeline: He comes from almost immediately after the end of Act 2, after dueling the Arishok and being made Champion. Personally, for him, it's been just over a month since the duel.
World Description: Thedas!!
History/Background: Wiki link.

Character Motivation: Garrett Hawke likes two things: saving the world and boning. The opportunity to save the world with his dick? That's the stuff dreams are made of. Plus, he's gone through a LOT of stress recently, at his canon point, so getting off-world was an intriguing idea. The aliens made it sound like kind of a world-saving sex vacation.

Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
  • Selfless: Hawke is a Big Damn Hero and a video game protagonist, meaning his life is full of side quests. When someone asks him for help, he might complain or be a smartass, but he will always, always help them. He will give and give and give of himself until there's little left. Example: While out on a mission to kill a dragon or clear vicious monsters from a dangerous mine, stopping to pick a rare flower as a favor to a local alchemist. Offering to sacrifice himself to distract an enormous demon so his teammates could escape.

  • Lighthearted: He's constantly making jokes and making light, trying to break through the horror in the world by seeing the funny side. While his terrible jokes draw as many groans as they do laughs, it usually works effectively to lighten the mood. He holds nothing sacred, as once observed by his friend Sebastian, when he made a really inappropriate joke about throwing dead family members at enemies. It's also a part of his charm, which is powerful- considering that at any given point, he can have at least four or five different people being basically in love with him. Practically all he has to do is smile at someone and flirt a little and they fall head-over-heels for him. He is, however, often oblivious to this power. Thankfully.

  • Bold: As a Big Damn Hero, he's contractually required to be obnoxiously brave and bold. He's thrown himself at dragons, enormous disease monsters, horned giants, giant spiders, and enormous tree monsters. He'll tell the viscount of the city to his face that he's doing something wrong, or walk into an enemy encampment to tell their leader that several of his men died at the hands of Hawke's own people. He has things he's afraid of, but generally speaking, there's not much. He wasn't afraid to walk into an encampment of elves (who most people think are violent, dangerous savages) and stroll right up on their leader. He wasn't afraid of a spooky lady who can turn into an enormous dragon. He brave.

  • Caring: Despite being an obnoxious dipshit, Hawke has an extremely strong moral center and a big soft gooey heart. He wants nothing more than to see the people he cares about safe and happy, and he cares about a whole damn lot of people. If someone has a sufficiently heart-wrenching sob story, he'll stop and nothing to help them. He spends years helping his friend Anders with his crusade to free mages, because he cares about the suffering they go through. He single-handedly duels a terrifying 8-foot-tall warlord in order to save his friend's life. He fights a powerful sorcerer to protect another of his friends from his old slave master. Hawke will do anything for the people he loves, or feels responsible for. He's the Champion of Kirkwall, and he takes that title... semi-seriously.

Noteworthy Negative Characteristics:
  • Reckless: Lord. Okay, he knowingly walked up to a dragon's lair and was like "okay let's kill this enormous fire-breathing thing." He regularly throws himself bodily at large enemies, gets right in their line of fire, and gets all up in their business just to stab them in the head. The people he was most romantically interested in were: a blood mage, an elf with anger issues and the ability to rip hearts from chests, a backstabbing thieving pirate, and an obsessed man on a crusade who was literally possessed by a spirit. He offered to sacrifice himself and didn't hesitate to throw his whole damn self at a dragon-sized thousand-eyed vagina spider demon. "Reckless" doesn't quite cover it. He has never seen a danger he wasn't a-okay with leaping into feet-first. The man has very little regard for his own safety, and doesn't necessarily think about consequences before acting.

  • Flippant: Hawke is extremely sarcastic and can be pushy at times, and often deals with his emotions or problems by laughing at them or making light. Face to face with the religious and military leaders in the city, who have the power to imprison your friends? It's cool, he'll sass her to her face and/or tell her she looks sexy in her armor. Someone very important is giving him a vital secret mission to go on, with possible ramifications for the safety of innocents? Clearly the best time to make a joke about getting naked! He once responded to a cry for help with the words, "Helping people and killing people are what I'm best at!" Much of this humor is a deflection; he attempted to make a joke while holding his dying mother in his arms, to ease the pain. It didn't work.

  • Extra: This covers a lot of things: dramatic, overbearing, an annoying sort of persistence. He once conned his way into an off-limits chateau by feigning an allergic reaction to a bee sting and dramatically falling to his knees screaming "If I die, tell them I DIED AT CHATEAU HAINE!!!" He can also be overbearing; he'll impose himself on others, bursting into their homes and shoving gifts at them or dragging them off to go on adventures, whether they like it or not. He always has good intentions, but it can be A Lot. He's also very persistent, which isn't a bad thing, but it can annoy. He'll stay connected with the same people for years, despite getting along like two cats in a bag, continuing to argue or bitch about the same things- even if his original intent was to try to get along with them. This is obvious in the "rivalry" game mechanic, where he stays "friends" with people for seven damn years, despite not really liking each other much.

  • He A Thot: (yes, this totally counts!) Despite being frequently oblivious to more subtle flirtations, Hawke is very flirtatious and kind of a hoe. He tends to flirt a lot just for fun, generally erring on the side of assuming people's disinterest in him, out of a self-conscious paranoia. He's very aware of how Large he is, and tends to back off the flirting when things get truly compromising- unless the other person is blatant af. This is most obvious in his relationship with Anders: within days of meeting him, Anders told Hawke to imagine him having sex with a dude, promising to tell him about it later in great detail. Yet, despite the man's obvious Extreme Thirst, it took three years for these idiots to kiss. Meanwhile, Hawke had casual sex or one-night stands with just about everybody else in Kirkwall, including half of his own friends. He a thot.

Powers/Abilities: In addition to being an extremely good fighter, extremely strong, quite fast, and surprisingly flexible (really!), he has learned the abilities of a Dragon Age templar, specially trained knights who fight magic and demons. This means he can dispel magic/supernatural effects in an area of effect. He can also do something called "Silence," which, in addition to literally silencing people's voices, can temporarily prevent them from using magic or 'abilities', such as supernatural ones. He can do a "holy smite," which involves striking at someone with his weapon and holy fire is involved and it's all very "the power of Christ compels you!!" There's also an ability, which takes a lot of energy, called "Wrath of Heaven." It involves summoning a blinding pillar of light that stuns enemies and damages demons/unholy things. These powers won't be nerfed, because none of them last especially long or affect wide areas. They're purely battle abilities. Sometimes he uses them to make pretty lights.

Character Fears: Losing people he cares about, failing in his responsibilities, getting people hurt. Enclosed spaces. Any sickness that involves veins looking black and skin looking diseased (the Blight from his world looks like this). Ogres from his world. Demons and demon possession. Powerlessness. Having to kill someone he cares about because they're being controlled, brainwashed, or possessed.
