action;
When they flutter away, it's of their own accord, and Jim rests his head back on the grass again, lifting the same arm to cover his eyes.
It's only a few seconds before he hears someone approaching, and he moves his arm away so he can see who it is. His eyebrows raise as he recognizes the man looking down at him. Looming, almost. "Hey. Hawke, right? How're you doing?"
no subject
As does the sight of a familiar face. He waves back as he approaches, stopping at Jim's feet to look down, shadow casting over the other man.
"Enjoying my day off." From his usual gym rat routine. "And what about you?" Garrett's eyes flicker over Jim's form, noting with some distant surprise that he's actually alone today. Not with anyone else. A fleeting shadow passes over his face, so quick it's almost nothing. "What are you up to?"
no subject
"Not much. Just relaxing. It's a really nice day out, I didn't want to waste it," he nods to the lake in the distance. "Plus, Horatio likes to hang out with his buddies. He's my goose."

Just another day on the Nameless Island.
One would think that Annette would be used to it by now, having been on the island as long as she has, but after tossing off her sheets to see some very muscled, definitely hairy legs...well, she shrieks. And then proceeds to spend the next ten minutes panicking because oh Goddess what does she do.
In the end, what she does is take a number of deep breaths and talk herself back into a state of normalcy. It's just another one of the Augur's weird pranks, it'll go away with time, she just has to deal with it until then. And truthfully? Dealing with this body isn't so bad. Sure, she bumps her head into the doorframe too many times the first hour but once she gets used to it, there's a strange power that comes with being tall and seeing the world from a completely different point of view.
Of course, her newfound joy goes straight down the drain as soon as she hears about what's actually going on. Then she's immediately beelining for the nearest bench so she can sit down and figure out whose body it is she's suddenly woken up in. It's not too difficult of a challenge, browsing through the Sexscape Navigator listings until she finds a photo that matches her (current) face.
Time to type (and delete and retype) a message to this complete stranger… ]

[ Help. ]

That's me. I wouldn't say I'm very small though...
[ Just because she's shorter than everyone else!!!! Life is simply unfair. ]
You haven't
Um
Done anything weird with it, right?

Hello? My name is Marian Hawke, I'm hoping we might have met before.
[She hopes, if nothing else, that it's a family member.]
no subject
Oh. Ah. [
BEYONCÉ???????] I was wondering if you were going to show up.no subject
Well, I'm here. I didn't know anyone was expecting me.
[Who are you???????]
no subject
Leandra and Malcolm's firstborn, champion of Kirkwall.
no subject
Are you... me?
[They don't look quite alike, but she sees her parents in him. The same eyes as Bethany, the same jaw as Malcolm. It would be hard to convince herself he's pulling her leg.]
no subject
They said they would have named me Marian if I was a girl.
no subject
I heard I would be named Garrett if I'd been a boy.
no subject
You already know that there are multiple worlds.
no subject
[She's scanning that medallion... Carver had never had a reason to give it to her, and the idea that he did for Garrett makes something heavy form in her stomach.]
As... strange as this is for me, it's a comfort to see someone from Thedas. I'm sure we'll have a lot to talk about.
[Maker, she's being awkward.]
....Should we grab a drink? Or will they all be laced with- auspicious substances?
no subject
[He's studying her just as hard as she's looking at him. It's been years since he's met a double, many years, and it takes some effort to dredge up everything he learned from them. They were both mages, and Carver was alive for both of them- with Bethany gone. He's heard the name Marian out of many lips before, but it was always someone different.
It'll be interesting to see who she really is.]
We can meet at my favorite spot. [insert directions that Amy's too tired to type out] Bring the dog.
no subject
[And there's an affirmational bark in the background.
She'll show up pretty quickly, accompanied by her black mabari. She hasn't gotten used to the fashion here, so she's wearing that familiar outfit they both used to wear around the house at home - with a leather belt at the waist to make it feel a little less like sleepwear. She happily slides into a seat across from Garrett, and offers him a wry grin.]
Greetings, fair stranger.
[Reaper immediately starts shoving his nose into Garrett, investigating this strange new man who smells exactly like his master.]
no subject
Despite the familiarity of it, Garrett's eyes are drawn to the difference in their outfit first, and the legs half-bared to the world. As Garrett's eyes drift up her body, he spots a detail that lodges his heart in his throat- a hand-stitched family crest. HIs family.
That certainly takes the wind out of his eternally thirsty sails. His eyes flick up to hers, latching immediately to that all-too-familiar look of faint bewilderment that veers the line of overwhelm. The look of someone practiced at holding their shit together in the face of the incredible. It's like every first day he's ever had in one of these weird little worlds, a look and a feeling he fears so much that it wakes him in the middle of the nice.
Fuck, she's pretty.]
On the contrary, I've heard so much about you.
[Totally unconcerned about the actual scene their enormous dogs are making. He only turns his head to firmly tell Ox to go outside.]
no subject
[Marian's looking him up and down at the same time, marveling at how strange and familiar he looks all at the same time. He looks like a mirror image of Father, but there are hints of Mother and Bethany in the eyes and the shape of his brow. He doesn't quite look like Marian, and yet it's easy to believe they're one and the same.
Her eyes drift lower, scanning over his muscles and the completely unfamiliar fashion he's adopted. She takes it that he's been here a while, had time to adjust to the strange ways of this land. She wonders how long it will take before she's comfortable.]
Your hound is different- Reaper, play nice. Go outside, both of you.
[After an initial sniff and stiff little stand-off, the dogs have started wrestling and wiggling around between the Hawkes' feet. When she speaks, Reaper glances up with his teeth still on Ox's ear, but he lets up and just knocks Ox over before prancing away, with Ox pushing into his shoulder so they can keep gnawing on each others' muzzles.]
...What's his name?
[Seems like an easy place to start.]
no subject
[Reaper, huh? His eyes linger on the dog's massive form as the two hounds make their way outside.]
Did Carver name him?
no subject
No, I did. Mother wouldn't let me call him Templar-killer.
[She picks at her nails, more from nerves than anything, and turns her attention from where the dogs were, back to the dashing man who looks disturbingly and comfortingly familiar.]
Hmm... I bet Bethany named Ox. Am I right?
no subject
[It was a sassy conversation between his parents- Mother unimpressed when Father came home to their little farm with a purebred mabari puppy we'd be better off getting an ox. Garrett had sassed that look at him, Mother, doesn't he look like he could do the job?, whereupon Bethany had scritched the puppy's pointy ears and cooed that he was the best little ox, yes he was.
Father then declared the pup's name to be "Ox," and Leandra gave up, shaking her head at the brood of smartasses around her.]
Partly because I thought it was a wonderful idea to backtalk Mother
no subject
I forgot how long it's been since I saw them. Mother and Bethany.
no subject
The ogre? [His hand comes up to touch the medallion lightly.] I remember that ugly bastard.
no subject
Hard to forget, isn't he. Looking back on it, I think Carver took it the worst. Losing Bethany, and having to listen to Mother and I fighting for hours afterward.
[A pause.]
Is he alright, in your- version of events?
no subject
From the other versions of us I've met, it sounds like the ogre usually takes Bethany. I'm the only one I've ever heard of who lost Carver instead.
no subject
I wonder why.
[Something cold grips her chest, thinking about losing Carver. It's become such a comfort, having managed to protect him until he could properly protect himself. There's so very few people Marian has truly managed to keep safe.
Okay. Deep breath.]
So... when did you come here? I mean, what was happening last in Kirkwall that you remember?
[Anything to change the subject.]
no subject
You first. I'm ahead of you.
no subject
[Is there some salt at Anders in there? A little bit.]
no subject
That was over three years ago for me. Well, three years in Thedas time. I've been here for a while.
no subject
[Time to flag someone down for a drink. Something hard.]
"Thedas time"... Maker. Seems like every minute I have something new to wrap my head around. I think the only thing that's made sense to me so far is the sex.
no subject
[With a shrug.]
I haven't even lived those years away all at once. There were two years right after the Arishok, then I went back home for six years, and now I've been here over half a year.
no subject
[This is all getting rather glum. Marian is getting visibly tired, and her gaze drops to the table before glancing back up.]
Do you think anyone else from Thedas will come here? I'd ask about going back, but...
[She's sure he knows the rest of that sentence.]
no subject
[He instantly looks about ten years older just from the memory of it. He catches Marian's eyes and holds her gaze earnestly.]
Take it from me, Marian. Of all the places in the multiverse you could have ended up- this is pretty damn good. Count your blessings, there are more than you think.
no subject
Are all our conversations going to be this depressing?
no subject
Not at all. Most days here are wonderful, I've just been kicked around the multiverse enough that it's hard not to get maudlin sometimes.
[His hand comes up to toy with the medallion again.]
For the record, she's a Grey Warden now. Grown into quite the leader, in fact.
no subject
So is Carver. He, um...
[He's never going to see her again. Brave face, Marian.]
Sometimes I almost forget which one of us is the eldest. Stepping out of my shadow was good for him, he really blossomed.
