Name: Garrett Hawke
Canon: Dragon Age
Age: 29
Appearance: this asshole
Canon Point: about a month after the Arishok fight, shortly after the end of Act 2
Background: Wiki link.

CRAU:
Hawke has had over a year of trauma and fucking growth in Zhautas and Ainmhian. His biggest souvenir is a ride-or-die relationship with Barry Allen, but there are some other differences as well.

He's been in a toxic relationship with a canon love interest (Anders, but the relationship was completely sabotaged by Justice and led to Anders never being around and having his affections split), dosed with sex pollen countless times, locked in solitary confinement with sensory deprivation, enslaved (very briefly), tortured, thrown into horrible AUs, given glimpses and spoilers of his own tragic canon future, and learned about the existence of many different versions of Thedas with infinite different Hawkes. (The joys of being a malleable protagonist). He's had traumas, relationships, friendships, victories, defeats, existential crises, struggles to survive, thrilling battles, and some genuinely good times. In Zhautas he acquired some triggers and traumas, and in Ainmhian he started to work through them. In Ainmhian he was finally able to be with Barry (without the shadow of Anders or the sabotage from Justice), got a job, got dogs, and started putting together something that at least faintly resembled a life he understood and enjoyed. It was a place he would have happily spent the rest of his life, so long as Barry could be with him.

For personality changes- he's more Tired now, worn down by the depressing tragedy of his own canon future. Losing people (from repeated multiversal jumps) has taken a toll on him, and he finds himself slower to bond even though his nature thirsts desperately for it- but he clings to the one person who's been a constant, Barry. It's made him more dependent, in a way- he can't imagine a life without him. Doesn't want to. Another personality shift is that he has more trauma now: his nightmares, already present back home from PTSD, are a nearly-constant presence that make peaceful sleep a cute fantasy. Due to solitary confinement he can't stand being penned in, and cannot STAND environments that are too silent or too stark, plain white. There are some trust issues that he always had but are a bit worse now, and some specific kink triggers. Some of his opinions about canon-specific things (mages and templars) have radicalized, but that generalizes nicely to issues of oppression, bigotry, and authority. He also carries a lot of guilt about the futures he saw in those AU portals (an event in Zhautas), and is convinced that those tragedies are the inevitable results of his own inadequacy and failures. He also wrestles with his feelings of never wanting to return home- is it right to want to abandon his world, his family, and his friends? Or is it okay for him to want to stay away from a place that's done so much damage?

There's also a ferocity in him. A determination to never, ever again make the mistake of not fighting hard enough to protect what he holds dear. He left Thedas willingly to go to Zhautas and it was partly out of fear- fear of not getting his mobility back after a nasty fight, fear of dealing with his own problems. He will never make that mistake again.

A couple good changes: increased comfort with his sexuality, and better emotional communication due to Barry forcibly prying Feelings out of him for the better part of a damned year. Also, the fairies at Ainmhian gifted him with magic. MAGIC. He has magic. He lov magic. He is now the only person ever to have both the abilities of a mage AND the abilities of a templar. He only got his magic shortly before coming to Penance, but he used it as much as possible and is over the fucking moon about it. He also has a body piercing he didn't have in canon. Don't worry about where it is.

(You can probably guess where it is.)

Personality:
  • Selfless: Hawke is a Big Damn Hero and a video game protagonist, meaning his life is full of side quests. When someone asks him for help, he might complain or be a smartass, but he will always, always help them. He will give and give and give of himself until there's little left. Example: While out on a mission to kill a dragon, stopping to pick a rare flower as a favor to a local alchemist. Offering to sacrifice himself to distract an enormous demon so his teammates could escape.

  • Funny Bitch: He's constantly trying to break through the horror in the world by seeing the funny side. While his terrible jokes draw as many groans as they do laughs, it usually works effectively to lighten the mood. It's a part of his charm, which is powerful- considering that at any given point, he can have at least four or five different people being basically in love with him. However, this lighthearted nature can veer into being outright flippant. Hawke is extremely sarcastic and can be pushy at times, and often deals with his emotions or problems by laughing at them or making light. Much of his humor is a deflection; he attempted to make a joke while holding his dying mother in his arms, to ease the pain. It didn't work.

  • Bold: As a Big Damn Hero, he's contractually required to be obnoxiously brave and bold. He's thrown himself at dragons, enormous disease monsters, horned giants, giant spiders, and enormous tree monsters. He'll tell the viscount of the city to his face that he's doing something wrong, or waltz into an enemy encampment to deliver bad news to their leader. He wasn't afraid of a spooky lady who can turn into an enormous dragon. He brave.

  • Caring: Despite being an obnoxious dipshit, Hawke has an extremely strong moral center and a big soft gooey heart. He wants nothing more than to see the people he cares about safe and happy, and he cares about a whole damn lot of people. If someone has a sufficiently heart-wrenching sob story, he'll stop at nothing to help them. Hawke will do anything for the people he loves, or feels responsible for. He's the Champion of Kirkwall, and he takes that title... semi-seriously.

  • Reckless: Lord. Okay, he regularly throws himself bodily at large enemies, gets right in their line of fire, and gets all up in their business just to stab them in the head. The people he was most romantically interested in were: a blood mage, a murderous elf with the ability to rip hearts from chests, a backstabbing thieving pirate, and an obsessed man on a crusade who was literally possessed by a spirit. He offered to sacrifice himself and didn't hesitate to throw his whole damn self at a dragon-sized thousand-eyed vagina spider demon. "Reckless" doesn't quite cover it. He has never seen a danger he wasn't a-okay with leaping into feet-first. The man has very little regard for his own safety, and doesn't necessarily think about consequences before acting.

  • Extra: This covers a lot of things: dramatic, overbearing, an annoying sort of persistence. He once conned his way into an off-limits chateau by feigning an allergic reaction to a bee sting and dramatically falling to his knees screaming "If I die, tell them I DIED AT CHATEAU HAINE!!!" He can also be overbearing; he'll impose himself on others, bursting into their homes and shoving gifts at them or dragging them off to go on adventures, whether they like it or not. It digs into his intense need to connect and be social- he'll stick with the same people for years at a time, even if they get along like a bag of wet cats. However, he's been known to just... brute-force his way into caring supportive friendship with people. Watch out.

Weaknesses/Temptations: WOW a lot of things.

Weaknesses:
- despair/self-destruction (most of the triggers for this involve family or Barry)
- pride (it's been broken and beaten down a few times, and it's possible to make him push back and stand tall. maybe even to push through all his self-hate and come right around to "fuck you, i have nothing to apologize for, ever, i have done nothing wrong and am above all things")
- self-hatred/guilt (he's a bundle of contradictions. also, everything is his fault and he's responsible for all the ills of the world)
- Barry Allen (and the fear of inevitably being separated from him)
- kind of a hoarder

Temptations:
- sex (he's an incredibly horny thot and a year in sex games has given him an incredibly high need for it)
- violence (he's a video game protag, yo. threaten a loved one and he'll go apeshit.)
- substances (he drinks to self-medicate, will sometimes self-medicate further if the situation is dire enough, and smokes weed all the time lmao)
- a guaranteed future with Barry where they don't have to go home to separate worlds!!

Sins:
murder
theft
cowardice
emotional infidelity
betrayal
sadism
letting Mother die
letting Carver die
getting people hurt
selfishness
being a dick
performing blood magic

Powers/Abilities: In addition to being an extremely good fighter, extremely strong, quite fast, and surprisingly flexible (really!), he has learned the abilities of a Dragon Age templar, specially trained knights who fight magic and demons. This means he can dispel magic/supernatural effects in an area of effect. He can also do something called "Silence," which, in addition to literally silencing people's voices, can temporarily prevent them from using magic or 'abilities', such as supernatural ones. He can do a "holy smite," which involves striking at someone with his weapon and holy fire is involved and it's all very "the power of Christ compels you!!" There's also an ability, which takes a lot of energy, called "Wrath of Heaven." It involves summoning a blinding pillar of light that stuns enemies and damages demons/unholy things. These powers probably (??) wouldn't need to be nerfed, because none of them last especially long or affect wide areas. They're purely battle abilities. Sometimes he uses them to make pretty lights.

He also, courtesy of the Ainmhian fae, is a mage now. Dragon Age magic is what he knows, though he has the ability to learn anything that can be taught (you know, like a normal skill). Right now he doesn't have a lot under his belt- he has to learn how to control and use it just like anything else. He can do blood magic (using life energy instead of mana, and/or controlling people like puppets and influencing minds), but hasn't used it because it wigs him out and fuck you, fairies, he didn't ASK for that. Mostly he's using it to look AWESOME and also to do horny things. There is legitimately a grease spell in Dragon Age, and he will absolutely cast it as magical lube. (Also, figuring out how to use magic without accidentally nerfing himself with his Templar abilities will be... interesting.)

Items:
1) glorious, long-necked pipe. think Gandalf.
2) high-magitech gag with a flawlessly realistic dildo on it, don't worry about it.
3) magic bracer that can summon a spectral shield made of pure energy
4) extremely familiar coat with detachable blue feathered layer
5) a magical... bracelet? a leather cord with two metal engraved metal charms on it. it magically fits any wrist, ankle, or neck and each charm has a different horny sex enchantment- an orgasm control one, and one basically meant for infinite deep throating. fun sinful stuff.
6) his journal.
